Dorothy's Piano Studio FAQs

Here is a list of the most common questions I get asked. Simply click on any question to reveal the answer. If you don't see your specific question please feel free to contact me at 816-637-3507 or online via Contact.

Do I have openings?

I can usually work something out if you decide I am the best teacher for you.

Can I wait inside during the lesson?

Yes, there is a waiting room. If the student is age 5-7, plan to stay. Otherwise, allow me to work with the student without interruption.

Are there piano lessons when school is not in session?

Yes, during some holidays, during the summer, and when canceled during severe cold and/or snow. Check on Facebook or call if in question!

If I don't come, will you make it up?

Depends on the reason and how much notice you give me. I try very hard to be flexible as long as you rarely miss.

Must I perform in public?

No, I am giving you opportunities to share your talent but I won't drop you if you don't. School-age children are encouraged to participate in the spring recital when certificates, ribbons and trophies earned are presented.

How long should I practice? Good question. Better question is "How should I practice?"

Practice long enough to make improvements to the week's songs/pieces. Five year olds – not more than 5 minutes at a time. In general, a minute for each age each practice time i.e. 10 minutes if 10 years old. Two or three practice times a day if possible. Practicing a short period every day is more productive than a long period once a week.

What type of payment do you accept?

Cash or check made out to Dorothy Boguske. Tuition payment and reimbursement for music is due the first of the month; late fee of $15 is added on the 11th. There is a secure student mailbox by the walk-in door for your convenience after studio hours.

Do you have a piano tuner you recommend?

Yes, I have found the best piano tuner, technician and restorer in Missouri: Steve Waters! His cell number is 816-699-6332 and his e-mail is Tuning fee is currently $115; there is a $10 discount for paying with cash PLUS another $10 discount if you are in the Northland. (Local would be $95 if cash.)

Where do I park?

Pull forward in my long driveway and then continue forward going left or right by the mailbox at the alley when leaving. Don't attempt to back out onto Hazelwood Street.

Is there a dog?

Are there stairs to climb?

No, the studio and waiting room are on ground level.
